OVERVIEW
What is AmigaOS?
AmigaOS is a family of proprietary native operating systems developed first by Commodore International and introduced with the launch of the first Amiga computer, the Amiga 1000, in 1985.
It was a revolutionary system that brought preemptive multitasking, advanced graphics, and four-channel stereo sound to personal computing.
The system combined a command-line interface with a graphical user interface called Workbench. At its heart was the Exec kernel, an efficient microkernel that could run multiple applications in as little as 256KB of memory.
What set the OS apart was its sophisticated approach to multimedia. The Amiga displayed thousands of colours and had audio capabilities that wouldn’t become standard for nearly a decade.
